By strengthening and incorporating natural resource management and biodiversity conservation, the Project aims to protect and restore ecosystems providing crucial services, such as coastal protection and carbon sequestration, leading to reduced vulnerability to climate change impacts and natural disasters.

Several awareness programs, training initiatives, sensitization activities, and management plans have been
developed as part of the Project. These efforts aim to raise awareness and promote the co-management of natural resources, leading to improved environmental management and preservation of natural assets. Furthermore, the Project’s support to MSMEs also plays a positive role in enhancing compliance within the private sector and increasing recognition of sustainable practices in utilizing natural resource assets. Through these measures, the Project strives to create positive impacts and foster responsible utilization of natural resources.

Strengthening Natural Resource Management and Biodiversity Conservation:
Subcomponent 1c will support addressing climate change issues by improving the capacity of communities to effectively manage and maintain the sustainability of locally managed marine areas (LMMA)32 within their locale.
It will finance technical assistance for (i) supporting the development of protected area management plans to manage the locally managed marine areas, awareness raising activities for communities, non-governmental organizations, and tourism operators about environmental conservation; and (ii) providing technical assistance for the protection of biodiversity of Natewa Bay and Peninsula.
