Taveuni Town Planning Discussions

Today, we are in Taveuni!

A safer, more accessible, resilient and better-functioning town-center will improve everyday life for residents and businesses while strengthening the visitor experience and supporting sustainable tourism development.

To help achieve this, the Fiji Tourism Development Program in Vanua Levu (Na Vualiku Project) is working with the Savusavu Town Council to establish priorities for how the town centre in Naqara develops towards 2050.

People who live, work, own businesses, access services or regularly visit Naqara gathered to share what they value about the town-center, the challenges they experience and the improvements they believe should be prioritised.

Their feedback will be documented and analysed alongside wider community responses to identify common priorities, concerns and aspirations. These findings will help inform the Detailed Town Plans for the Savusavu Town Council that administers Savusavu and Naqara, Taveuni, providing Government and relevant authorities with a stronger basis for considering future improvements, investment and implementation.

The town planning work forms part of the wider Integrated Tourism Master Plan for Vanua Levu and Taveuni, ensuring that Naqara’s future development considers the infrastructure, services, environmental protection, accessibility and community needs required to support sustainable growth.
